Background
World leaders, civil society, scientists, and campaigners gathered in Nice, France for the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC), held from June 9 to 13, 2025. This conference resulted in a fast-moving, high-stakes week of diplomacy, announcements, and events spanning all ocean topics, from High Seas Treaty ratifications, to calls for a deep-sea mining moratorium, to 30×30, MPAs, and growing momentum for Indigenous knowledge.
With approximately 15,000 participants and 55 Heads of State in attendance, UNOC3 featured 10 Ocean Action Panels, 450+ official side events, and many more events across Nice. Coordinating event planning and on-the-ground delivery while maintaining campaign visibility across such a busy agenda, was no small task.
Objective
Provide strategic direction, logistical coordination, and communications support for multiple events, ensuring that all deliverables were aligned with client and campaign objectives.
Approach and delivery
The Communications INC team was on the ground throughout the conference, with additional support from remote colleagues. We worked across the conference with 17 clients, providing strategy, logistics, and communications support for more than 85 events, including small strategic workshops, multi-partner side events, film screenings, high-level receptions, media management, and on-site filming.
By combining advance planning with the ability to adjust quickly when needed, our team maintained a high standard of service and kept events running smoothly. Drawing on the team’s extensive experience at large international conferences, we provided an end-to-end approach to event management. This included event strategy and all logistics, asset production, speaker briefings, media management, and production of promotional and archival materials after the conference.
